Skylan Development Ltd. Monday announced that the office towers of its flagship Parc.1 development in Seoul’s Yeouido financial district had received a prestigious LEED Gold precertification.
The mixed-use development, which is set to become a premier address in Korea when it opens two years from now, includes two Grade A office towers, a retail mall of over 300 shops and restaurants and a 350-room luxury hotel.
As the recognized standard for measuring building sustainability, the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a highly coveted certification. Parc.1 is the first development in Korea to receive a Gold level precertification. “This is a milestone for us in terms of best in class environmental design,” said Dan Grover, Managing Director of Skylan Development. “It is an indication that Parc.1 is already setting new standards in Korea.”
“Responsible office tenants will take this recognition seriously when choosing a headquarters for their company in the coming years,” said Ian Cho, Leasing Director for Skylan Development.
Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington D.C.-based, nonprofit coalition of building industry leaders, the LEED is a Green Building Rating System which honors standards for environmentally sustainable construction. The system offers four certification levels for new construction – Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum – that correspond to the number of credits accrued in categories of sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources and indoor environmental quality.
