Seoul expects to have the world’s second tallest building completed by 2015 in the Digital Media City (DMC).
Seoul city Mayor Oh Se-hoon signed an agreement at Seoul Plaza Hotel on March 30th with a consortium of 23 investors including Daewoo E&C, Woori Bank, and IBK for the DMC landmark building project.
The 133-story skyscraper will be 640 meters tall, and become the world’s second highest after Burj Dubai being built by Samsung Corp. in the United Arab Emirates which rises 800 meters.
This project is expected to create jobs for 86,000 people and produce about 11 trillion won worth of output.
The top floor will be an observatory, where visitors will be able to view Gyunggi area as well as the entire Seoul city. It will be the highest observatory in the world, higher than the outlook on the 124th floor of Burj Dubai.
The building’s exterior design will be chosen through an international competition and the construction work will begin in September.
