Designation of 3 Pilot U-Cities by MLTM

Busan, Incheon Free Economic Zone and Mapo-gu in Seoul will get 2 billion won respectively in financial support for U-city projects from MLTM.
The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs announced on April 30 that it designated Busan (U-city in an existing city), Incheon Free Economic Zone (U-city in a new city) and Seoul’s Mapo-gu (U-city in a new town) as trial areas of U-City for 2009, in order to create a successful model of U-City
The three areas were selected after 45 days of application period during which local governments were allowed to apply for the designation, and the examination of written application and field investigation done by a Committee, consisting of U-City experts from the public, private and academic fields.
The Ministry will provide 2 billion won of financial support to each of the designated areas to help them become successful models of U-City in Korea.
The Ministry also said that it will create exemplary U-Cities through the project to increase global urban competitiveness, and improve U-City brand values to secure national competitiveness and introduce U-City successful cases to the world.
